LHON Research Resources
LHON Collective has partnered with the Milken Institute Science Philanthropy Accelerator for Research and Collaboration (SPARC) to develop, launch, and lead initiatives that propel scientific and medical research. Together we are strategically identifying investments that will accelerate the development of tools and treatments to cure LHON.
The SPARC team is comprised of scientists who have developed a deep understanding of LHON and have taken that research to facilitate expert conversations and collaborations to guide research and clinical strategies to move the science forward for LHON.
State of the Science
The Milken Institute (SPARC) conducted a comprehensive scientific landscape of LHON, inclusive of emerging trends in research and clinical applications, to determine what is and is not known about this rare disease. This background research was informed by relevant academic literature and conversations with over 70 key opinion leaders. The initiative spanned multiple sectors, including academia, industry, non-profit, and government entities, and across the research pipeline, from basic science to clinical care.
LHON Scientific Retreat
The LHON Scientific Retreat convened to identify and prioritize the most promising opportunities to accelerate the delivery of therapeutic options to LHON patients. Together with the Milken Institute (SPARC), we brought together 25 subject matter experts from nine countries, representing foundational research in LHON and aligned diseases, therapeutic development, novel research tools and technologies, and clinical care, for a two-day retreat. Critical insights and information collected from this event informed the development of the LHON Opportunity Map.
