A genetic counselor can be of significant assistance. They can explain the purpose of genetic testing, and coordinate the process. A genetic counselor can explain genetic test results in clear, plain language. They can provide support in sharing the diagnosis with other family members. They can help other family members determine whether or not to get genetic testing. A genetic counselor is trained to provide unbiased, informed support for individuals as they make family planning decisions.
